Third Party Reviews: General and Specific

Does the assurance cover everything in the report?

Some assurances are general and cover all indicators and narrative in the report.  Other assurances cover only specific indicators or certain aspects of the report.  It is essential to read the statement carefully to determine exactly what has been assured.

Some assurance engagements also determine if the report was prepared according to a set of guidelines, such as the Global Reporting Initiative’s G3 Guidelines.  Other assurance engagements do not include that aspect.

The assurance engagement is the result of a negotiated contract between the management of a company and the assurance provider as to which services will be provided.  Therefore, assurance statement may differ from one company to the next.
