Has an organization done what it said it will do?

An organization will use a performance measurement system to

  • gauge progress toward its objectives; and
  • demonstrate accountability to itself and its shareholders.

The system is made up of indicators designed to measure action quantitatively:

  • ratios;
  • percentages;
  • metrics; and
  • numbers.

Although performance can be presented in qualitative or narrative form, readers and companies usually prefer quantitative information as it allows them easily and quickly to assess trends, challenges, and accomplishments.
